When one reaches the highest degree of human maturity, one has only one question left: How can I be helpful?—TERESA OF ÁVILA Beloved author Ronald Rolheiser continues his search for an accessible and penetrating Christian spirituality in this highly anticipated follow-up to the contemporary classic, The Holy Longing. With his trademark acuity, wit, and thoughtfulness, Rolheiser shows how identifying and embracing discipleship will lead to new heights of spiritual awareness and maturity. In this new book, Rolheiser takes us on a journey through the dark night of the senses and of the spirit. Here, we experience the full gamut of human life, pleasure and fervor, disillusionment and boredom. But, as Rolheiser explains, when we embrace the struggle and yearning to know God we can experience too a profound re-understanding to our daily lives. “What lies beyond the essentials, the basics?” Rolheiser writes. “Where do we go once some of the basic questions in our lives have been answered, or at least brought to enough peace that our focus can shift away from ourselves to others? Where do we go once the basic questions in our lives are no longer the restless questions of youthful insecurity and loneliness? Who am I? Who loves me? How will my life turn out? Where do we go once the basic question in life becomes: How can I give my life away more purely, and more meaningfully? How do I live beyond my own heartaches, headaches, and obsessions so as to help make other peoples’ lives more meaningful? The intent of this book is to try to address exactly those questions: How can we live less self- centered, more mature lives? What constitutes deep maturity and how do we reach that place? And, not unimportantly, what constitutes a more adult, Christian discipleship? What constitutes a truly mature following of Jesus?” As the poet Rainer Maria Rilke suggests, “Live the questions now.” In Sacred Fire, Rolheiser’s deeply affecting prose urges us on in pursuit of the

There's a sacred and hidden path inside each one of us, a path of mysteries and amazing manifestations, where nothing is impossible, not even our wildest spiritual creations. This is the realm of impossibilities, where imagination is carried away by a spiritual insight, which is here referred as the phoenix. The allegory inside this book takes us to a subconscious realm, that can lead us to the most uplifting and unknown side of ourselves, but also to other realities as well, namely, the ones that are parallel to ours, and also other dimensions and galaxies. It is with this allegory of the phoenix that we understand the role of the dragons and serpents of our planet, and how they interfere in the Tao of our existence. As a dance of forces, vibrations of different natures, these symbols and concepts take us to the deepest truth within, of who we are and how far can we go. This is a book about the adventures of our soul, the journey within that so many Shamans live to explore. It's also about a path that all spiritualists and gurus have experienced, a path that some have called nirvana, enlightenment or awaking, but few have ever had the ability to fully describe in a way that can be perceived by the common mortal. The Native Americans have often told us about the spirit of the eagle that keeps guard over the spiritual world. This eagle, or big bird, is representative of another living force, which is the phoenix, the bird of fire. This is why many mystics of ancient times believed that only fire could take souls to another world. The fire purifies the body, but the most potent fire comes from within, as an energy that we burn with our conscious awareness. This is the fire that Buddhists, Taoists and Hindus persist in awakening from within, commonly using disciplines created specifically for this purpose, such as yoga, chikung and meditation. This fire represents the power of our own spirituality, which most people are unaware to possess. As mortals and genetically ma

The Yoga Vasistha has been a favourite book of spiritual seekers in India these several centuries. Its special appeal lies in its thoroughly rational approach, and in its presentation of Vedanta as a philosophy to bridge the gulf between the secular and the sacred, action and contemplation, in human life, through a comprehensive and lofty spirituality. This monumental scripture is the greatest help to the spiritual awakening and the direct experience of the Truth. This is certain. If this is what you want, you are welcome to the Yoga Vasistha. An oft-recurring expression in this scripture is kakataliya'-a crow alights on the coconut palm tree and at that very moment a ripe coconut falls. The two unrelated events thus seem to be related in time and space, though there is no causal relationship. Such is life. Such is 'creation'. But the mind caught up in its own trap of logic questions why, invents a 'why' and a 'wherefore' to satisfy itself, conveniently ignoring the inconvenient questions that still haunt an intelligent mind. Vasistha demands direct observation of the mind, its motion, its notions, its reasoning, the assumed cause and the projected result, and even the observer, the observed and the observation-and the realisation of their indivisible unity as the infinite consciousness.
