Networked Graphics Summary:

Networked Graphics equips programmers and designers with a thorough grounding in the techniques used to create truly network-enabled computer graphics and games. Written for graphics/game/VE developers and students, it assumes no prior knowledge of networking. The text offers a broad view of what types of different architectural patterns can be found in current systems, and readers will learn the tradeoffs in achieving system requirements on the Internet. It explains the foundations of networked graphics, then explores real systems in depth, and finally considers standards and extensions. Numerous case studies and examples with working code are featured throughout the text, covering groundbreaking academic research and military simulation systems, as well as industry-leading game designs. Everything designers need to know when developing networked graphics and games is covered in one volume - no need to consult multiple sources. The many examples throughout the text feature real simulation code in C++ and Java that developers can use in their own design experiments. Case studies describing real-world systems show how requirements and constraints can be managed.

Networking the Learner Summary:

Deryn Watson and Jane Andersen Editors INTRODUCTION The role of a Preface is to introduce the nature of the publication. The book that emerges from an IFIP Technical Committee World Conference on Computers in Education is complex, and this complexity lies in the nature of the event from which it emerges. Unlike a number of other major international conferences, those organised within the IFIP education community are active events. A WCCE is unique among major international conferences for the structure that deliberately ensures that all attendees are active participants in the development of the debate. In addition to the major paper presentations and discussion, from international authors, there are panel sessions and professional working groups who debate particular themes throughout the event. There is no doubt that this was not a dry academic conference - teachers, lecturers and experts, policy makers and researchers, leamers and manufacturers mingled and worked together to explore, reflect, discuss and plan for the future. The added value of this event was that we know that it will have an impact on future practice; networks will be formed, both virtual and real -ideas will change and new ones will emerge. Capturing the essence of this event is a challenge - this post-conference book has three parts. The first is the substantial number of theme papers.

Handbook on Networked Multipoint Multimedia Conferencing and Multistream Immersive Telepresence using SIP Summary:

Handbook on Networked Multipoint Multimedia Conferencing and Multistream Immsersive Telepresence using SIP: Scalable Distributed Applications and Media Control over Internet is the first book to put together all IETF request for comments (RFCs), and the internet drafts standards related to the multipoint conferencing and immersive telepresence. This book includes mandatory and optional texts of all standards in a chronological and systematic way almost with one-to-one integrity from the beginning to end, allowing the reader to understand all aspects of the highly complex real-time applications. It is a book that network designers, software developers, product manufacturers, implementers, interoperability testers, professionals, professors, and researchers will find to be immensely useful. Practitioners and engineers in all spectrums who are concentrating on building the real-time, scalable, interoperable multipoint applications, can use this book to make informed choices based on technical standards in the market place, on all proprietary non-scalable and non-interposable products. This book will provide focus and foundation for these decision makers.

Simulation Networking Training Requirements Relational Database Summary:

The Simulation Networking/Training Requirements Relational Database was developed to support analyses and training research projects for applying networked simulators to collective training. The collective tasks, subtasks, and standards described in armor platoon-, company team-, and battalion task force- level Mission Training Plan (MTP) documents form the core of the database. This core is supplemented with three types of data on each of over five thousand collective performance standards. The first type of data rates the extent to which the unit can perform the activities associated with each standard in the current simulation networking (SIMNET) environment. The second type of data provides information on how each of 41 potential enhancements to SIMNET would change the extent to which units can perform activities associated with each standard. This type of data ensures the utility of the database as new generations of network simulators are fielded. The third type of data identifies the source or sources of the data required to assess whether a unit meets performance standards in the networked simulator training environment. These data sources include data broadcast over the simulation network, unit plans for performing the mission, terrain data, tactical communications, and direct observation of behavior. SIMNET, Collective training, Networked simulators, Cost-effectiveness analysis, Training strategies.
